How to buy Vintage Shoes – by Shoe Size!

Tip No.1 – Buy your Vintage Shoes by Shoe Size!

Sound obvious right?

But, one of the worst things we find about buying vintage shoes online, is that we always fall in love with shoes that do not come in our size.

We’ve found a lovely little online store that helps us buy vintage shoes by shoe size…Tangerine Boutique.

Of course there are times when size dooesn’t matter because ‘ownership’ of those shoes is enough…just staring at them makes us feel lovely – but that is another blog post!

How to do a 1960’s Beehive Hairstyle

If you are getting a bit bored of the super-sleek-poker -straight-neat look and fancy doing a better job than Amy Winehouse – how about trying a beehive to get it out of your system!

Sported by stars such as Dusty Springfield and Audrey Hepburn’s character in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the beehive became a household style staple in the 1960’s.

We love this tutorial from WonderHowToBeauty by stylist Damon Hamilton – nice modern twist to the beehive which would be great for a themed party and awesome back combing action!

Caution ladies and gents…you may need help to do this one…and an awful lot of hairspray, close those eyes now…

Let us know how you get on…toodle pip!

20s Flapper Inspired Garter by Dottie's Delights

Our favourite find is on Dotties Delights based in Chicago. This 20’s flapper inspired Garter is on our christmas list, we can add a little flirty fun to an outfit or pretty-up a pair of boots.

Handmade using vintage lace in black and dark maroon – this is fun and flirty without looking cheap.

The Dotties Delights Etsy store says there is only one left in this design though….race you!

How to Revive a Fabric Corsage

We love using pretty fabric corsages to add a bit of colour to an outfit. They instantly feminise a little black dress and can add a little cheer to a dull day.

Here’s our latest modern addition to the growing collection; a purple satin double flower from Accessorize.

But what can a girl do when her corsage goes a little droopy…like ours did after two days in a suitcase?

Purple Satin Flower Corsage

The answer - spray starch!

Hold your corsage by the pin/clip and hold your spray starch approx 30cm away.

Lightly spray around the corsage, but not directly onto it – this ensures you don’t swamp the petals.

Whilst the spray starch is still damp, arrange your corsage petals in a less droopy fashion.

If possible hang up or hold your corsage until spray starch is dry.

Hey presto – corsage revived!

Now, it might not sound glamorous, but its very little hard work and your corsage (and you) are revived to be admired another day…
